At present, these ratings are generated using Patrick Barrie's method as outlined on the ETwA website and the Journal of Applied Statistics - however, they use every tournament with game results in Winkipedia from 1963 onwards, including invitationals, club and youth tournaments. There are some obvious potential pitfalls with including less serious tournaments (feedback welcome if there are tournaments that should definitely be excluded!) but it seemed like a fun thing to do...
